NEWS FLASH! if you ever wated to own Russian Chrome Diopside - buy it NOW!

Gemstones 101 - facts about Russian Chrome Diopside - It's all about the color!

This beautiful 100% natural, Untreated gemstone is one you will fall in love with the moment you see it in person!

Chrome Diopside is found in many parts of the globe, BUT........'

RUSSIAN CHROME DIOPSIDE is very different and unique!

It is mined in Siberia - it is so cold there, the crust of the earth is in a state of perma -frost for 9 months of the year - there is a small 3-month window of opportunity when this gemstone can actually be mined.

It comes out of the earth this amazing, brilliant green color - no gemstone treatments are used - nor are they needed.

Just a wonderful gift from Mother Nature!

BUT - there is an important ALERT in the world of Gemstones - There is only one mine in the world where Russian Diopside can be found - and its about to close forever!  This mine is in Siberia - and the harsh weather conditions make it possible to mine this stone only 3 months out of the year....but this year - 2014 - they came up EMPTY!  The mine is no longer producing gem grade quality stones - this means that if the same thing happens in 2015 - the mines will be played out and permanently closed!

Now, Chrome Diopside is found in several locations around the world - sadly, it does not have the same color and clarity as the Russian Diopside!
RUSSIAN CHROME DIOPSIDE can only be found in one mine in Siberia, Russia

Christmas 2014 - Let Me Be Your Personal Shopper! Tips on Buying Jewelry as Gifts

http://stores.ebay.com/JEWELRY-AND-GIFTS-BY-ALICE-AND-ANN

The 2014 Christmas Shopping Season is here - Let me be your Personal Guide and Shopper to find the perfect Gift for Everyone on your List!

Electronics are the rage....but let's be honest - here is nothing more exciting on Christmas Morning than to open a package and find something sparkly just for you!

Buying jewelry as a Gift for someone else is a daunting task - Do you know their Ring size? Do you know their Birthstone?  Do you know if they can wear Earrings that are not made out of Gold?

All scary questions when you are trying to choose a gift of jewelry for another person!

Let me help -  Below are some basic Guidlines to understanding how to purchase that perfect Gift of jewelry!

Diamonds are ALWAYS a good choice!  You will never go wrong choosing a jewelry gift of Diamonds!

Rings make a beautiful Gift - BUT there are usually some issues when choosing a ring for someone else - You really have to know things like ring size, style, color, etc. and unless you are buying Gold - they can be difficult to re-size. Alot of jewelers do not re-size silver...so if you choose the wrong size - your gift can be a dud!

And, for the Men out there, giving the gift of a ring is VERY personal - so if you are not ready to put a ring on it - opt for a safer choice.

Necklaces and Pendants are good alternatives - You don't have to be concerned about whether it will fit or not - and it's still sparkly and personal!

Anything in the shape of a Heart is sure to please just about every woman!

Crosses are also a great Christmas Present - there are so many beautiful crosses to choose from - in Gold, Silver and with Gemstones!

Bracelets are also a Great Gift Choice -  and can usually be sized by adding or removing links by any jeweler.

Tweeners and Teens LOVE fashion bracelets - Friendship Bracelets are all the rage this year - as are leather wrap bracelets

Earrings can also be tricky - many, many people have allergies to  Silver and nickel - so to be safe in this category - you should always choose earrings set in 10k or 14k gold - real gold - not plated.

and Ladies - Don't forget the MEN on your list! They appreciate a Gift of jewelry as well!

Birthstone jewelry is a wonderful Gift to get for someone else - It's special when you choose a piece of jewelry just for them with their Birthstone!

Black Friday - Did you know?????

Black Friday - kind of a strange name - but did you know WHY it's called Black Friday?

It's a term that refers to old-fashioned accounting methods - way back when - the retailers and the grocers kept handwritten ledgers of their accounts.

Numbers in RED ink meant a loss

Numbers in BLACK in meant a profit - hence the term "We are now "in the Black"  - simply, we are no longer losing money - we are showing profits!!

In recent years - the retailers have adopted this term - and it has come to mean BIG HUGE PROFITS - traditionally, the Day after Thanksgiving is when the Christmas Shopping Season begins - and for accounting purposes - The Retailers make lots of money!!

IN THE BLACK = Black Friday!

Gemstones 101 - Incredibly Terrific Topaz

Ahhhhhh Topaz....where do I begin?  This is another 100% Natural Mined from the Earth, Mother Nature created amazing Gem!

I

am Topaz. I am the colors of the sunset and of the sea. I am the enduring symbol of love and affection. Wear me and I will bring you friendship and ensure the fidelity of the one you love.
The Egyptians said that topaz was colored with the golden glow of the sun god. Legend has it that topaz dispels all enchantment and helps to improve eyesight. The ancient Greeks believed that it had the power to increase strength and make its wearer invisible in times of emergency. Early discoveries from Brazil in rich reddish cognac colors to vivid pinks, were used to grace the jewelry of the 18th and 19th Century Russian Czarinas, hence earning the moniker of "Imperial Topaz."
Topaz sometimes has the amber gold of fine cognac or the blush of a peach, and all the beautiful warm browns and oranges in between. Some rare and exceptional examples are pale pink to a sherry red.
Topaz is found in Brazil, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Africa and China. The birthstone for November, topaz is a talisman for the sign of Sagittarius and is the suggested gift for the 23rd anniversary.
Blue, once the most rare color of topaz, is today the most common, thanks to a stable enhancement process that turns colorless topaz blue.

After the raw topaz is extracted from the earth and cut, it is irradiated to brown and then heated to sky blue. This enhancement process is permanent.
Due to the popularity of blue topaz, a new treatment process called vapor deposition has been developed to create additional colors of topaz. In this treatment process, similar to those used by opticians and camera makers to make lens coatings, a thin colored film is bonded on the surface of topaz to create dark blue, red, pink, and green colors or rainbow iridescence.

These vapor deposition-enhanced topaz colors must be handled with special care, as the coating can be scratched or abraded, but the vapor-deposition process leaves a permenant color. It will not fade

Topaz is a very hard gemstone, with a Mohs hardness of 8, but it can be split with a single sharp blow, a trait it shares with diamond. As a result it should be protected from hard knocks. Clean with mild dish soap; use a toothbrush to scrub behind the stone where dust can collect.

Gemstones 101 A Carat is a Carat is a Carat...Right?? WRONG!

Did you know??

A Carat is a Carat is A Carat.....Right???  WRONG!!

All gemstones are not created equal - that is to say When you look at some Gemstones - compared side by side with each other - they can be the same cut - the same mm size - and the same shape - but they will not WEIGH the same!!

The density of each individual gemstone determines the appearance -

for instance  a  1 carat round cut Diamond will look much smaller than 1 carat of a round cut Opal. - This is because the Diamond is a much denser gemstone that the Opal - and it takes less of a diamond to equal a carat that it does an Opal - Therefore 1 carat of Opal will appear to be much bigger in size. An Opal's natural properties make it a light gemstone - in fact, it contains trapped water, which gives the Opal it's natural Color Play

This Genuine Pink Opal Ring is 31 carats - but it appears MUCH larger because it is less dense - this stone is the size of an Easter Egg!

also Opal is the Birthstone for October!

In simpler terms - a 1 carat round Diamond is typically between 5mm in 6mm - whereas a 1 carat round Opal is typically  9mm - 10mm  - much bigger in appearance, but still 1 carat!!  It weighs so much less than the diamond - that it takes MORE Opal to equal a carat!

In Gemstones - this is called "Specific Gravity"

Specific gravity

Gem materials vary greatly in density -- amber may float in salt water (density near that of water), while hematite is more than five times the density of water.

This is why two different gemstones may have the same size but different weights and vice versa -- a one carat round brilliant diamond of typical proportions will be approximately 6.5 mm in diameter, while a round brilliant ruby of the same size (6.5 mm in diameter) and proportions will weigh approximately 1.55 carats. Generally, gemologists refer to specific gravity, or relative density -- the ratio of the density of a gemstone relative to that of water.
